PETAPALOOZA!
In an effort to provide an alternative to purchasing expensive, often unhealthy puppies from puppy mills located at Dog Alley in Canton, Petapalooza! is a FUN event gathering together rescuers, shelters, activities, products and services for pet lovers on First Monday weekend each month. The event is FREE to attend and loaded with resources and activities. Upcoming dates are First Monday weekendSaturdays: April 2nd, April 30th, June 4th. Current location is the park in Ben Wheeler, Texas, located on Hwy 279 between Edom and Canton.
The homeless animals brought to the event have had all their vacinnations, have been spayed or neutered, and are are available for adoption for $65 to $125 dollars. This is well below the several hundred to more than a thousand dollars charged by puppy mill breeders for animals of questionable heritage, and whose mothers have been used as breeding machines often without medical care, living in cages without exercise, socialization or love, then discarded when unable to produce. Read about it in Carol Bradley's book,
Saving Gracie, and you will never consider buying a pet from a puppy mill.
Rescued purebred dogs are also available at Petapalooza, as well as resources and information about breed-specific rescuers and animal welfare organizations.
